Biography of Alexander Grim

From a letter written by Muriel Taylor, wife of James C. Taylor, grandson of Alexander and Jane Grim, to one of her children....

"Alexander Grim, born near Chillicothe, Ohio. He drank heavily but was a church goer too, so maybe he took up church after he drank. I do not know. His wife, Melinda Jane Dick, was English and came from Virginia, she told me. She was a grand old lady still living when Jim and I were married August 12, 1899. His people didn't record marriages either, I see, but I can give you birth dates of your uncles and aunts. But first I must tell you about Alexander Grim's family of children, who are your great aunts and uncles. They were Will, a Civil War veteran, Ann, Martha (your grandmother), Charley, Matthew, Laura, Evan. Uncle Matt [James Madison Grim] and wife were killed in a railroad accident. They had a large family. Uncle Will [William Farmer Grim] accumulated a modest fortune. Had two children. Uncle Charley [Charles Alexander Grim] had a large family. Ann married a man named Recob [Thomas J. Recob] - a large family. Martha, your grandmother, a larger family - 5 sons 1 daughter. Laura - one son - killed in a railroad accident with his wife, like Matt. Evan never married. Charley, Laura and Evan are still living, or I think Charley is."
