Obituary of Howard Steven Grimm

From THE RECORD HERALD, Washington Court House, Ohio - Monday, April 6, 1959

MT. STERLING -- Howard S. Grimm, 74, who spent virtually his entire life in the Madison Mills and Cook's Station communities, died at 12:30 a. m. Sunday at his home in Mt. Sterling.

His early life was devoted to teaching school at Madison Mills and White Oak, but for about the last 20 years, he had a restaurant on the CCC Highway at Cook's Station. He had lived in Mt. Sterling about four years.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Downer Grimm, who grew up in the same community; a daughter, Mrs. Viola DeVoss, Columbus; three grandchildren, Howard (Jake) Downs of Cook's Station, Miss Sharon Downs, Columbus, and David DeVoss, and two great grandchildren, River and Sally Downs in Columbus.

He also leaves two brothers, Floyd of Washington C. H. and John of Columbus, and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Baughn of Washington C. H.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Snyder Funeral Home here and burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Lindsey, a former pupil of Mr. Grimm at Madison Mills, will officiate.

Letha Mae Grimm, 85 of 142 N. High St., Mt. Sterling, died Thursday, February 28 at the Madison Elms Nursing Home.

She is survived by grandchildren Howard (Jake) Downs of Mt. Sterling, David DeVoss of Athens, Tenn. and Sharon Shipley of South Carolina; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were March 1 with Robert Barker officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home, Mt. Sterling.

Howard S. Grimm, aged 74, passed away at his home in Mt. Sterling, Sunday, April 5, following an extended illness.

He is survived by his wife, May; daughter, Mrs. Viola DeVoss; three grandchildren, Howard and Sharon Downs, David DeVoss; Two great grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd and John, both of Columbus; and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Baughn.

Funeral service was held at the Snyder Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Tuesday with burial in Pleasant Cemetery.
